UMUAHIA AGOG AS GREGORY UNIVERSITY INDUCT ITS SECOND BATCH OF MEDICAL DOCTORS

It was jubilation among the medical scholars of Gregory University, Uturu on Friday 30th August, 2024 as the second batch of medical doctors was inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. This epoch event took place at Aguiyi Ironsi Conference Center Umuahia.
During the event, the founder / proprietor Prof. Gregory Ibe who was ably represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Uwaoma Kalu Uche expressed his gratitude to the Registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, the entire Gregory University Medical College staff, the GUU community, and the graduating medical doctors as he advised them to abide and uphold the standards of medical professions, noting that this will help them to be the best in the medical practice. In his words;
“…let me remind you of the line in our anthem that says “In every quest we remain the best”. Therefore as you commence this phase of your professional trajectory in medical practice aim to be the best in all you do since everything you need to remain on top is already in your DNA.”
Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mrs. C. U. Njoku who congratulates the graduands for their dedication, resilience and hard-work, said that the graduating scholars are embarking on a journey that will let them to make a meaningful impact on the lives of many people.
She further stressed that the medical profession does not only demand technical skill and knowledge but also compassion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. According to her; “The field of medical profession is changing rapidly with advancement in technology, therefore, remain curious, adaptable, and continue to seek knowledge throughout your careers as best doctors are not only those who excel academically but also those who are lifelong learners.” She urged the scholars to create values for Gregory University as they step into the frontline of medical practice.
Continuing, the provost the University, Prof. Sabastine A. U. Offiah in his address said that the scholars have exhibited a high level of passion, commitment and hard-work in their academic work which has brought them to this height. He further advised the scholars to always be in remembrance of the knowledge they were impacted as they progress in their profession. In his words; “Remember that the journey does not end here, it is just the beginning of a life-long commitment to learning, serving, and making a difference in the life of your patients.”
He thanked the founder, the college, faculty staff, and mentors who have in one way or the other supported and guided the scholars throughout their academic journey.
More-so, the registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. Fatima Kyari who was represented by her deputy Dr. Victor Kolawole Gbenro thanked the University for their impact on the scholars as he advised the inductees not to let their profession or status get into their head where they will disrespect members of the medical team, their patients, family or friends. According to him; “This is just the beginning for you; you must seek further knowledge if you must go far. Uphold the ethical standard of medical profession, remain humble, represent your alma-mater and the medical profession well, and make sure you do well wherever you go.”
In conclusion, twenty six (26) medical doctors of Gregory University Teaching Hospital were inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. Among those who were inducted are: Dr. Amedu Paul O., Dr. Prince Evidence, Dr. Obiajunwa Favour, Dr. Ezem Nkem P, Dr. Ebhodaghe Laureen, Dr. Egwuogu Ikenna, Dr. Akuegbo Onyedikachi, Dr. Ogaranya Peace, Dr. Kuba Bennet, Dr. Okpara Sharon, among others.
Finally, the deputy provost, Prof Ijeoma Nduka in her closing remark thanked the vice chancellor, the provost, the registrar of MDCN, the college and faculty staff, the inductees, guests, and everyone in attendance.
