Obi Urges Tinubu to Cut Retreat Short and Address Nigeria’s Crises
The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi has responded to the tragic recent killings of over 50 Nigerians in Plateau State and across the nation. He urged President Tinubu to cut short his retreat and return to address the pressing governance issues at home. In a post on his official X account, Obi noted that while the President has been away for two weeks, over 150 Nigerians have lost their lives to insecurity, particularly in Plateau and Zamfara states.
Obi highlighted that in the North East, leaders from Borno State are lamenting the resurgence of insurgency, with both troops and civilians facing indiscriminate killings. In the South East, the situation is similarly dire, with rampant killings and abductions.

He questioned the President’s actions in France while the nation he committed to protecting grapples with serious security challenges: “Amid all these, the CEO of the troubled company called Nigeria is retreating in a faraway land in France, far from the Company’s headquarters.”
Obi reminded President Tinubu that the primary duty of any government is to secure the lives and property of its citizens. He expressed concern about a retreat taking place in a country where leaders have successfully maintained peace while violence continues to escalate in Nigeria.
“The fight for a better Nigeria is not about individuals; it’s about ensuring that every citizen can see, feel, and benefit from the policies and decisions made those in power,” he stated.
Obi concluded with an urgent plea: “It is vital for Mr. President to suspend whatever he is doing in France and return home to take responsibility for these alarming issues.”
