NUT Suspends Strike in Abia State After Promising Discussions with Government
Abia State public primary and secondary school Teachers have decided to suspend their planned strike, which was set to commence tomorrow, following productive discussions with government officials.
A joint statement from the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Abia State Chapter, signed Chairman Friday Madu and Secretary Nnenna Okonkwo, announced the halt of the industrial action.
This decision came after what the union characterized as “extensive and thorough” talks with government representatives to resolve their concerns.
The NUT leadership recognized the state government’s request for additional time to address the union’s demands and expressed hope that this would lead to constructive discussions and sustainable solutions.
“Although our concerns are still valid, we are optimistic that this opportunity will be used wisely to engage in genuine dialogue and achieve results that benefit both our members and the state’s educational system,” the statement said.
However, the union indicated that it will continue to closely monitor the situation and will not hesitate to take further action if the government fails to meet its commitments within the stipulated time.
