NDDC LIGHTS UP OZU-ABAM NDI OJI ROAD, AWARDS CONTRACT TO VIROP SERVICES LTD

In a landmark development for the area, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has awarded a contract to Virop Services Ltd and Iropawa Globals Ltd, led Engr. Iro Awa, for the installation of 466 solar-powered street lights along the Ozu Abam-Ndi Oji Abam-Arochukwu corridor. The initiative is designed to boost security, spur economic activity, and improve daily life for residents and travelers in the route.
The solar lighting system is tailored to the Ozu Abam–Ndi Oji Abam–Arochukwu highway, a project established under Governor Alex Otti, with the objective of modernizing the area and enhancing safety. The lights are expected to brighten the road and reinforce a sense of safety for users.
The ceremony, held at the Ndi Oji Abam village square, drew a large, eager crowd. The Iyom Ndi Oji arrived in full force, joined Nde Eze, Nde Ichina, and youth groups, all keen to witness the historic occasion.
During the handover, Engr. Oko of NDDC lauded President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing Ndi Abam’s needs and thanked Engr. Iro Awa for his persistent advocacy for community development.
Engr. Iro Awa expressed gratitude to the NDDC for approving the project and to Governor Otti for funding the road from Ozu to Arochukwu and the Omenuko bridge. He announced that beyond the 466 lights, his firms would supply additional luminaires for Ndi Oji Abam compounds, bringing the total to more than 600.
“We are dedicated to making our community well-lit and secure,” Awa stated. “We believe this project will positively affect our people, and we appreciate the support from the NDDC and the Abia State Government.”
Awa also assured that installation of the solar lights would be completed the end of September, allowing the community to begin enjoying the benefits soon.

Chief Dr. Nkem Okoro, State Chairman of Abia Arise, commended Governor Otti’s administration for its development push in Abam and noted a new era of progress.
Hon. Ikeogu Ukpabi Okpi, Councilor for Ovukwu Ward, lauded Engr. Awa’s dedication to the community’s development and thanked Governor Otti for the road and bridge projects that have unlocked economic potential.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Ezeogo Uka Oji-Ezeogo Ndi Oji Abam, Chief Kalu Bassey (President General of Ndi Oji Abam Development Union), Madam Grace U. Agwu (President, Ndi Oji Abam Development Union Women Wing, Home Branch), and Mr. Emeka Ejea, Youth Chairman of Ndi Oji Abam, who collectively expressed appreciation to Dr. Alex Otti, Engr. Iro Awa, and the NDDC for delivering development to the community.
