INEC CLARIFIES ON COURT ORDER REQUESTING THE ARREST OF PROF. MAHMOOD

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that it hasn’t disobeyed a Federal High Court order in Oshogbo, Osun State.

Recall that the news of the court order made ways in the social media asking the police to arrest the former INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for allegedly disobeying a judgment related to the Action Alliance (AA) party.

However, INEC in response to the call, described the news as misleading. The commission further claimed that it complied with the court’s judgment within the deadline recognizing the AA executive elected on October 7, 2023.

The commission listed four national executives but omitted the National Chairman, Rufai Omoaje, due to a pending appeal at the Supreme Court challenging his sacking as Chairman, adding that the names were publish it’s dashboard which they submitted to the court as evidence.

The commission therefore urges media organizations to always fact-check their reports to avoid misinforming the public.
