GUU MEDICAL COLLEGE MAKES NAME AGAIN, REGISTERS IN THE ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL SCHOOLS IN AFRICA

The fastest growing private University in the southeast, Gregory University, Uturu has recorded another milestone as its college of medicine and health sciences has been registered in the Association of Medical Schools in Africa. This was announced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mrs. Cele U. Njoku during the 13th Matriculation Ceremony of the institution.
According to Prof Njoku, “Our medical scholars can now be formally recognized to practice medical profession within and around Africa. Prior to the existing relationship between the Russian Friendship University Moscow, Russia in the area of exchange programmes for staff/scholars as well as technological transfer, we have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sacred Heart University, CT, USA and our medical college has acquired full accreditation with the National University Commission and Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). Also, our medical college is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, which means that our medical graduates can participate in ELFMG (USA/CANADA) and around the world.”
Continuing in her address, Prof. Njoku reiterated the management’s commitment in making sure that Gregory University stays in the forefront of tertiary education in the world, achieving the best in all the 12 colleges in the institution. In her words “During the last convocation, we had seven scholars who made first class degrees in the Law department, our Nursing scholars were indexed with Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), we have state of the art laboratories for Pharmacy, engineering, medicine, nursing, medical laboratory, Radiography, Physiology, Physiotherapy, Public Health departments, etc. adding that the institution has established an Institute for Foreign Languages which include Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish. She admonished the newly matriculated scholars to prioritize their tasks, manage their time properly, imbibe good behavior, shun exam malpractice, cultism, indecent dressing, and above all, take their studies serious,” she added.
Furthermore, the wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Pricilla C. Otti, reminded the newly matriculated scholars to stay focused and committed to their studies so as to be able to face the challenges ahead. Mrs. Otti who spoke through the wife of the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Adaeze C. Emetu urged the scholars to always engage with their tutors, participate in extra curriculum activities, charging them to be good ambassadors of Abia State, upholding the value of integrity, hard-work, and respect. Mrs. Otti stressed that Gregory University is committed to providing the scholars a world class education, she advised the scholars to make their parents proud as she further pointed that the government of Abia State under the visionary leadership of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti is committed to providing the best education facilities to Abia students ensuring that the best academic resources are provided.
Consequently, the Chancellor of Gregory University Mr. Okechukwu Ibe, who was ably represented by the Pro-chancellor Prof Augustine A. Uwakwe said that the world is fast changing and success in today’s world requires knowledge, creativity, resilience, and a problem solving mindset. He urged the scholars to think critically, engage in meaningful discourse, and develop solutions that will impact the society. In his words; “it’s your moment to dream big, challenge the status quo, and position yourself as future leaders.”
Concluding, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) and chairman 13th matriculation planning Committee, Prof. Uwaoma Uche expressed gratitude to God for making this epoch event success, he thanked the founder Prof Greg Ibe, the chancellor, Mr. Okey Ibe, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Cele Njoku, and others for making it to the occasion. Among other dignitaries present are: the Personal Assistant to the Founder, Mr. Bonny Ikwuagwu, Surveyor Ezeibeaja, Deputy Registrar, Communication & Strategy, Rev. Sleek Ogwo, the Vice Chancellor, Abia State University, Uturu, Prof. Ndukwe Okeudo, represented by the DVC (Academics) Prof E. I. Akubugwo, the State Coordinator, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Mrs. Juliet Aniekwe, among others.
