Delta State Governor Oborevwori Defects to APC alongside Others
The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator James Manager announced on Wednesday in Asaba, the state capital, following a lengthy meeting that exceeded six hours at the Government House. Senator Manager highlighted that, “All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, local government chairmen, and others, have agreed to join the APC. We cannot remain in a sinking boat.”
Mr. Aniagwu Charles, the Delta State Commissioner for Information, corroborated the governor’s defection and the united decision of PDP leaders and stakeholders to transition to the APC.
He remarked, “We need to alter our drinking patterns. To make this adjustment, we had to decide on a course of action that would reinforce development in our state, uphold the rule of law, promote security and the welfare of our citizens, and fundamentally ensure that Delta’s development continues uninterrupted.”
Charles elaborated, “We determined that departing from the PDP was essential for fostering collaboration and building a state that every Deltan can take pride in. We believe that the current state of the PDP is similar to palm wine that has spoiled, necessitating a change in our drinking group.”
He indicated that this decision was unanimously reached party leaders and stakeholders, with plans for a formal public declaration soon. “By the grace of God, we will make a significant announcement on Monday confirming our transition to the APC,” he stated.
This defection signifies a crucial shift in the political dynamics of Delta State, potentially reshaping the party landscape across the South-South region.
