COMMISSIONING OF SKILLS 87.7FM: CONFORM TO THE LAID DOWN RULES BY NBC – MRS OBODO.

In a bid to foster growth and development in the ancient city of Okigwe, Imo State, the founder and proprietor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof. Gregory Ibe commissions new and first radio station in Okigwe.
The Zonal Director, Enugu Zone, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Mrs. Ijeoma Obodo told the management of Skills 87.7fm, Okigwe that in their efforts to add value to the lives of the people of Okigwe and its environs through quality broadcasting, they must not forget to conform to the NBC laid down rules and regulations. She gave this charge on her speech during the commissioning of Skills fm saying that the charge becomes pertinent especially this time that the country is facing all manner of quackery in the broadcasting space. According to her, “It is necessary for the management of Skill 87.7fm to conform to NBC rules and regulations especially now that the station has commenced full broadcasting, the Radio Station will impact positively on its community of operation. Therefore, I urge the management not to be hostile to other Radio Stations that will be coming up in the area in the nearest future. I also call on Okigwe communities and its environs to patronize the new station.”
Consequently, the Founder and Proprietor of Gregory University, Uturu, Prof. Gregory Ibe, in his address presented by The Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof. Uwaoma Uche, said the Radio Station is not just a collection of transmitters and equipment, but a platform for connection, collaboration and empowerment, adding that the station has come to improve the lives of the people by announcing them to limelight.
He further stated that information has the potentials to shape communities. In his words, “We believe that information has the potential to shape communities while driving societal progress and development, Skills 87.7 FM will serve as a bridge, connecting diverse community with the knowledge, culture, and stories that defines us.”
Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor, Gregory University, Prof. Augustine Uwakwe, ably represented by The Deputy Vice Chancellor administration, Prof. Evaristus Anyaehie, stated that the birth of Skills 87.7fm, is in-line with the corporate mission of Gregory University Uturu entrenched in our motto ” Knowledge for Tomorrow”.
According him, “the choice of Okigwe as the location of Skills FM is borne out of the patriotic desires of our Founder, Prof. Gregory Ibe, to contribute to the development of the third largest city in Imo State” He further added that Skills 87.7 FM will indeed add value to humanity.
The Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUT, Imo State Chapter, Ifeanyi Nwanguma in his goodwill message, charged the management of the station to engage seasoned Journalists to protect the station against quackery in the profession, promising that Imo NUJ will partner with the new Radio Station in future engagements. He also added that he will ensure the opening of Skills FM chapel for NUJ.

More-so, the Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, Abia State chapter, Chief Sunday Onukwubiri, appreciated Prof. Gregory Ibe, for attracting development to Okigwe Community and beyond. He described Prof. Ibe as an illustrious son of Igboland whose philanthropic gesture and community development have cut across cities in Nigeria over the years. He called on the good people of Okigwe and beyond to patronize the new radio station.
In conclusion, the Registrar, Gregory University Uturu Dr Chukwuemeka Mpamah in his closing remark said that it is in the culture of the Founder/Proprietor of Gregory University to bring things needful to announce a particular city. He encouraged the management of the radio station to distinguish themselves among the crowd. According to him, “Since my youth, I have been hearing about Igboko in Radio Nigeria and I am not surprise to see him and Captain here because I know Prof Ibe always gather the best brain in everything he do.” with them and others pilloting the affairs of Skills fm, I believe this radio station will do excellently well. He thanked everyone for coming and prayed that God will grant them safe trip to their various destinations.
