The Imo State National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Nasarawa has sacked Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, member representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency for lack of locus standi. The court orders INEC to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days.

It can be recalled that both APC and LP candidates for Ideato North and South Federal Constituency Election challenged the primary election and nomination of Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere before the general election at FHC in Owerri and upto Supreme Court, where it was held by all three courts, (FHC, Appeal and Supreme Court), that the applicants lacked locus standi to present their petitions to the courts. The courts also held that only aspirants can challenge nomination of candidates as it is an internal affair of a political party.

After the general elections and Ikenga Ugochinyere was declared winner by INEC, the same Petitioners, particularly the APC candidate, challenged the declaration of PDP’S candidate Ikenga Ugochinyere as winner, contending that Ugochinyere was not qualified as at the time he contested the election because of invalid primary election.

The Tribunal also found that election didn’t take place in 55 polling units in the Federal Constituency.
