Abia Govt Reveals Expansion Plans For Owerrinta,Onuimo Roads
Abia State Government has unveil plans to start construction on the expansion of Owerrinta and Onuimo roads soon.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this on Monday while briefing newsmen on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council Meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu assured that due process will be followed meticulously to manage displaced individuals while addressing the forthcoming Onuimo phase of the project.
He noted that government having drawn from the successful experience with Ossah road, where communities and those affected were handled seamlessly, is committed to replicating the approach in the Onuimo phase, which he said would unfold in due course.
The Commissioner emphasized that the smooth execution of Ossah road would serve as the state government’s blueprint for ensuring a similar positive outcome in Onuimo.”
According to Kanu, “Due process would be followed in terms of those who would be displaced by the project would be handled. We’ve had an experience with Ossah road and we are aware of how smooth it was at Ossah, how we handled the communities there and and all those who were affected by the new road.
‘The same thing will be applied at Onuimo because Ossah road is the first phase, the second phase is Onuimo and that would come up in due course.
‘The same way we handled the Ossah, is the same way government will handle Onuimo and Owerrinta”.
He said the Governor has transformed the state into a massive construction zone, implementing road projects throughout the three Senatorial Zones of the state.
Kanu also noted that the government’s initiative to address potholes has evolved into a statewide policy, ensuring the prompt disappearance of potholes within the state in a matter of days.
He emphasized the crucial role of Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) in facilitating the business transformation of the local economy adding that government launched a 30-day transaction period for CofO applicants, aiming to further reduce the processing time in the near future.
He further announced the commencement of fencing at the Lokpanta cattle market, assuring the public that it will be completed soon as the state government remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing the security of the area.
Contributing, the commissioner for Power and public utilities Mr Ikechukwu Monday said that plans are on the way to commence the replacement of faulty electricity transformers across the state, assuring that all affected areas would benefit from the gesture.
